Born in Şanlıurfa, Gülsen Bilgin completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Şanlıurfa and graduated from A Ankara University, Faculty of Languages, History and Geography Department of Librarianship. She married in 1979 and settled in Trabzon. She taught English in various high schools in Trabzon. Mrs. Bilgin, who moved to Istanbul in 1990, founded the Ali Nihat Gökyiğit Foundation Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden library, which is one of the most comprehensive specialized libraries in Turkey in 2005, and worked here for 8 years. During this time she took scientific plant drawing classes in the Botanical Garden.
The artist, making drawings of plants and animals, was involved in such projects as Project of Plants of Kars, Muğla Fruit Heritage Project, Turkey Mushrooms First Book Project and she has been currently working on the Illustrated Turkish Flora Project.
