Grand Bazaar - Kalpakçılar Street
The Grand Bazaar, which has 45 thousand m2 closed area, more than 3600 stores and 14 large commercial buildings on 65 streets, was established by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1461, and it was continuously expanded and improved. The oldest and largest bazaar of the world having 22 different doors has been the commercial center of Istanbul for 557 years. Street names of the Grand Bazaar, which is like a city on its own and where you can encounter anything that you are looking for unexpectedly, guides the visitors silently regarding what kind of professions had been performed there previously. Kalpakçılar Street is the main street of the bazaar extending between the Nuruosmaniye door, which is one of the most imposing and most known of the main doors, and the other big door, Beyazıt door. Top of the Kalpakçılar street is covered with 15 leaded domes. Many calligraphic works decorate the grandiose doors of the bazaar, but the calligraphic work written "El kasibü habibullah", which was made by the Calligraphist Sami, is worth-seeing.
