Marmara University Republican Museum
It is one of the works of D’Aronco in Istanbul who worked as the palace architect for 16 years in the period of Abdülhamid II. Hamidiye Ticaret Mekteb-i Alisi (School of Trade) was placed in this building facing to the Hippodrome, meaning to the building that is used as the Marmara University Rectorship today. The building, which was damaged during the strong earthquake occurred in Istanbul in 1894, was renovated by D’Aronco again. After the proclamation of the Republic, its name was changed as Ulumu Aliye-i Ticariye Mektebi; it became Yüksek İktisat ve Ticaret Mektebi (Economy and Trade College) in 1936, and Istanbul Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences in 1959. It continued to provide training since 1982 with the name of Marmara University. The building, which was burnt out except its exterior walls in the fire broke out in the night of December 27, 1977, was brought to the life as faithful to its original, and it was put into service on March 30, 1984. A part of the building is used as the Marmara University Republican Museum since 2008.
