Hüseyin Öksüz
He was born in Konya in 1944. He completed his primary and secondary education in Konya. After primary school, he studied as a hafiz for three years. He recited the holy Quran and attended mevlit associations in Konya mosques during Ramadan. He played ney in Mutrip during the Mevlana Commemoration Ceremonies in the 1970s-80s.
In 1966, during his pharmacy education in Istanbul, he received ratification from the world-renowned Calligrapher Hamid Aytaç (1968) by continuing his Thulus-Nesih studies, and from Mustafa Uğur Derman for his Ta'lik studies. He worked as a pharmacist in Konya for 10 years. He received five awards, including a World Championship, in the International Calligraphy competitions held every three years by the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (IRCICA).
In the first International Calligrapher Hamid Calligraphy Competition in 1986, he was awarded with first place in Celî Dîvânî, I. Honorable Mention in Celî Ta'lik, II. Honorable Mention in Celî Thuluth, Honorable Mention in Celî Dîvânî and Honorable Mention in Nesih in the 1989 2nd International Yakut ül Müsta'sımî Calligraphy Competition.
He prepared calligraphy for mosques in Turkey and various parts of the world.
He pioneered the establishment of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Selçuk University in 2001 and became a faculty member. He was the head of the Traditional Turkish Arts Department for three years. He trained world-class calligraphers here. He gave ratification to more than twenty of his students in the university and courses.
He was deemed worthy of the Distinguished Service Award of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT)in 2010 and the Culture and Arts Grand Award of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2012.
He retired from Selçuk University in 2011. In 2013, he became a faculty member and Head of the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at KTO Karatay University. He still continues this duty.
