From the President of the Foundation

Adopting the theme of ‘Where There is Shadow, There Must Be Light’ this year, we invite you to observe the deep relationship between light and shadow complementing each other. While the shadow reminds us of the potential of the light that is hidden and solidified within it, the light overcomes the limits of the shadow and gives meaning and depth to its existence. This duo brings to light the timeless values of our traditional arts by interpreting them with the expressive forms of contemporary artists. Inspired by the deep-rooted artistic and aesthetic accumulation of this geography, Yeditepe Biennial creates a new working space for artists and audiences, positioning art not only as an exhibition space but also as a platform for study and production.

Art is sometimes a quest in which light and shadow intertwine, a language of expression that allows us to discover the layers of aesthetic and spiritual richness. By patronising the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial, we would like to express our gratitude to our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for strengthening and supporting this cultural value, and to Fatih Municipality and its esteemed Mayor, Mr. M. Ergün Turan for their cooperation. We sincerely thank all the artists who joined us on this journey.

Thanks to the 3rd Yeditepe Biennial, while combining the artistic language of the past with new expressions, we address the spiritual discovery of human beings from different perspectives under the theme ‘Where There is Shadow, There Must Be Light’. This biennial brings together a variety of approaches, offering viewers a deep and rich perspective.
