Betül Sayın

The artist started to study thuluth with Zehra Dinçer at the History and Islamic Research Foundation in 2002 and naskh with Davut Bektaş at the Classical Turkish Arts Foundation in 2010. In 2012, she attended Fatih Sultan Mehmet University Faculty of Fine Arts, Traditional Turkish Arts undergraduate programme, where she took thuluth-naskh lessons from Davut Bektaş and ruqah, diwani and maqıli lessons from Ali Toy. She also received bookbinding education from Islam Seçen and Melike Kazaz. In 2017, she graduated from the undergraduate programme, the main branch of which is calligraphy and the minor branch is bookbinding, and in the same year she prepared her thuluth-naskh ijazah (authorisation).

In 2017, she started her master's degree programme in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts of the same university. In 2020, under the supervision of Prof. M. Hüsrev Subaşı, she completed her master's degree by completing her thesis titled "Muthanna in Calligraphy from the Ottoman Empire to the Present" (“Osmanlı'dan Günümüze Hat Sanatında Müsennâ”). During her master's degree, she took taliq lessons from Ali Toy.

In 2020, she started her Proficiency in Art programme at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Traditional Turkish Arts Department. The artist, who continues her calligraphy studies with her teachers Ali Toy and Davut Bektaş, has been continuing her academic studies as a research assistant at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts since September 2019.
