Asalya graduated from the Department of English Journalism and Politics at the Islamic University of Gaza in 2009. He started his career in the field of media and communication in 2000 and has held various positions in this process.
In 2006, he started working as an announcer at Al-Aqsa Radio, where he presented news, media broadcasts and programmes. Previously, he was the director of the Media Tools Workshop between 2000 and 2006.
Asalya, who has significant knowledge in the field of art and calligraphy, participated in the 1st Palestinian Calligraphers Exhibition held in 2009. In 2011, he represented Palestine at the Forum of Famous Mushaf Calligraphers of the Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah al-Munawwara, and in 2015 he attended the International Arab Calligraphy Festival in Algeria, and in 2016 he took part in a joint exhibition of six Palestinian calligraphers in Ramallah.
For more than 14 years, he gave calligraphy lessons in universities, mosques, foundations and cultural centres. The artist, who specialised in calligraphy types such as thuluth, naskh, diwani, ruqah and nastaliq, also organised many courses on calligraphy techniques and served as a jury member in competitions. In 2011, he served as a jury in the 1st Arabic Calligraphy Competition at the Islamic University of Gaza.
He has participated in many television and radio programmes and written various reports about his art and expertise. He also has experience in analysing handwriting and preparing calligraphy texts.
