Ali Çalışır was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1966. He graduated from Middle East Technical University Vocational High School, Department of Business Administration in 1991 and Anadolu University, Faculty of Business Administration in 1996. He started his artistic journey by taking Paper marbling lessons from İsmail Dündar and Calligraphy lessons from Calligrapher Kamil Nazik at Cafer Pasha Madrasah. In 2024, he completed his master's degree at Akdeniz University Institute of Fine Arts.
Known for his innovative approach in the art of paper marbling, Çalışır won the first prize and exhibition award in the Ministry of Tourism Traditional Arts Competition in 2007. The artist, who received the title of "Bearer of Intangible Cultural Heritage" in 2008, started to participate in group exhibitions since 2002 and opened her first solo exhibition in 2004. During his career, he has attended more than 30 exhibitions in 12 countries and produced more than 1000 works.
Çalışır has attracted attention with his three-dimensional, perspective and naturalistic approaches in paper marbling art and has taken part in many national and international projects. His 240 m² Oversize Paper Marbling works in Antalya and 81 m² Oversize Paper Marbling works in the United Arab Emirates were widely acclaimed. "Güle Sevgili Sevgiliye Gül" (Beloved for the Rose, Rose to the Beloved) exhibition in Karaman in 2011 and the exhibition in Taksim Art Gallery in 2012 are among his prominent works.
Çalışır, who still gives lectures in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, continues to work actively to promote his art and raise new generations.
