Ali Leigong was born in Beijing in 1954 to a Hui Muslim family. In 1972, the artist started his painting education at the Beijing Painting Academy and took lessons from Prof. PAN Jiezi. Under the influence of REN Shuaiying and HUANG Jun, he concentrated on the fields of Classical Gongbi (Chinese Craftsmanship Art/Miniature) and Hsieh Yi (Free Ink Brush Painting/Sumi-e). Since 1976, he participated in national and international exhibitions and won many awards. In the 1990s, he opened exhibitions in Iran and the USA, establishing links between Islamic art and other schools. On his return to Beijing, with the encouragement of his teacher, he developed a new school called "Chinese Islamic Miniature".
Li Leigong, who is known as the first Chinese artist to hold a solo exhibition in Iran, was awarded the title of "Outstanding Muslim Artist" by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2011 and commemorated as a cultural ambassador. As the founder of the Chinese Islamic Miniature School, he served as vice president of the Chinese Institute of Muslim Culture and Art, and as a consultant at Peking University and the Malaysian Central Institute of Art. He also served as the director of the Chinese Gongbi Art Academy and the Chinese Calligraphers Association of Türkiye.
His well-known works include "The Copper Master", "Persian Weaving Ladies" and "The Silk Road Ambassador". His works, which have been exhibited in many countries such as Türkiye, China, Iran and the USA, are included in international collections.
