Ayten Tiryaki was born in Ordu in 1961. She completed her primary and secondary education in Ordu and her high school education at Amasya Anatolian Teachers' High School. In 1983, she graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Theology with a master's degree.

In 1983, Tiryaki started to take calligraphy lessons from Calligrapher Hasan Çelebi and received her calligraphy ijazah (authorisation) from him in 1989. In 1984, she attended illumination courses at Kubbealtı Academy and continued her studies with Prof. Çiçek Derman and İnci Ayan Birol and received ijazah in illumination. Her competence in the art of calligraphy was honoured by the Presidency with the "Ministry of Culture Living Human Treasures" award. She also has a book titled "Crochet Patterns in Illumination" ("Tezhipte Tığ Desenleri”).

The artist continues to work with her students in calligraphy and illumination courses and has given illumination and calligraphy ijazah to many of her students.
