The artist was born in 1977 in Üsküdar Sultantepe, in the Uzbekler Dergah. In 1997, she met Hikmet Barutçugil at the International Paper Marbling Congress and became his student. Eda Özbekkangay was also a student of Fuat Başar, one of the masters of Paper Marbling and Calligraphy. With the support of her family, she has made it her way of life to revive the art of paper marbling and to keep her ancestral art alive in the Uzbekler Dergah, which her grandfathers turned into a home of knowledge, wisdom and art a century ago.

The artist continues to teach and popularise the art of paper marbling in institutions such as Istanbul Design Centre Bukhara Uzbekler Sufi Lodge (Tekke), Sinan Pasha Mosque TDV KAGEM Istanbul Art Workshops and Özyeğin University.
