Elif Maide Barut was born in 1998 in Konya. Her interest in calligraphy began at the age of 13 at the Destegül Fine Arts Center in Konya, under the guidance of calligrapher Gülşen Yıldız. She later continued her training for several years with calligraphers Seyit Ahmet Depeler and Abdurrahman Depeler, working on rıka, sülüs, and celî dîvânî scripts. During her university years, she completed her training in sülüs-nesih scripts with calligrapher Sami Naddah. After moving to Istanbul for her graduate studies, she resumed her training with calligrapher Davud Bektaş and received her sülüs-nesih certification (icâzet) in 2024.
She graduated as the top student from the Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Calligraphy Department. Currently, she is pursuing her graduate studies at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in the Traditional Turkish Arts Master's Program under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hüsrev Subaşı, with her thesis focusing on "Tombstones of Calligraphers in Istanbul."
Actively participating in exhibitions and educational projects, Barut continues to share her expertise in calligraphy through workshops, jury memberships, and seminars. In 2024, she served as a jury member in the calligraphy field at the Yalova ZEKA Project Girls’ Anatolian Imam Hatip High School.
