Emine Sağlam Bakan was born in Giresun, Türkiye. She completed her primary and secondary education in Giresun and high school in Germany. She studied at Anadolu University Western Europe Programme, Faculty of Business Administration in Vienna. After living in Austria for many years, she returned to Türkiye and started to take calligraphy lessons from Calligrapher Aydın Ergün in Istanbul in 2002. In 2003, she was granted her Ruqah ijazah (authorisation) and continued to teach thuluth and naskh writings.
In 2010, she opened her first solo exhibition titled "Love Journey with Pen..." (“Kalemin Aşka Yolculuğu…”) at the Turkish Embassy in Vienna. Between 2012 and 2014, she taught Ruqah writing at the Hochschule Für Islamwissenschaft (Higher School of Islamic Sciences) in Vienna. In 2014, she received her Thuluth-Naskh ijazah (authorisation) from Calligrapher Aydın Ergün and started to teach Diwani and Jali Diwani calligraphy.
In 2018, the artist started to receive Taliq Writing education from Calligrapher Tahsin Kurt and received her ijazah in 2023. In 2022, she held her second solo exhibition titled "Love Journey with Pen..." which lasted 17 days at Üsküdar Municipality Bağlarbaşı Congress and Culture Centre.
The artist continues her works in her workshop in Ümraniye, Istanbul and also gives calligraphy lessons. Her works are included in various collections in Türkiye and abroad. Bakan, who also has a residence in Vienna, lives a life intertwined with history, culture and art.
