Faruk Kırlı

Faruk Kırlı was born in Istanbul and graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture. He worked as an architect in the restoration teams of Topkapı Palace and Dolmabahçe Palace and also worked on tile restoration. He continues his master's degree in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts.

Faruk Kırlı, who took part in the 2nd Yeditepe Biennial under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye as the only tile artist, exhibited his works in Nuruosmaniye Cellar with his installation titled "Sultan's Dowry" (“Sultanın Çeyizi”). This project combines traditional tile forms with digital art, while the way in which the works are exhibited and their relationship with the space is remarkably handled. An article about him titled "The Sultan's Dowry in the Digitalisation of Turkish Tile Art" (“Türk Çini Sanatının Dijitalleşmesinde Sultanın Çeyizi”), published by Yıldız Technical University, has stood out in the academic literature. The artist is followed with interest both in the academic community and the art community with the digital and contemporary interpretations he brings to traditional arts.

In 2024, Faruk Kırlı, who has the Tile Artist card of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, has opened 6 solo exhibitions so far and exhibited his works in more than 100 exhibitions in Türkiye and abroad. He has also participated in contemporary art organisations such as Artcontact Istanbul and Bazaart. His exhibition news, portfolios, interviews, workshops and works have been covered with interest in print and digital media. Interpreting tradition, digital and contemporary through his own retrospective, the artist applies the discipline of architecture, different materials and new techniques in his works.
