Gülsüm Gügercin was born in 1976 in Germany. She continued her education, which she began in Germany, in Istanbul. In 1994, she graduated from Üsküdar İmam Hatip High School. In 1995, she began learning the art of tezhip (traditional Turkish illumination) under Necati Sancaktutan and completed her training in 2000.
After completing her education, she pursued the art of tezhip professionally without interruption, while simultaneously earning a bachelor's degree in Philosophy.
She received awards in the international Al-Burda Tezhip Competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the UAE in Abu Dhabi, in the years 2008, 2009, and 2015. She also undertook the illumination work for the Prestige Qur'an, published by the Turkish Religious Foundation in 2012.
Her works have been showcased in exhibitions both domestically and internationally and are included in private collections, museums, and published books. She has also conducted hands-on workshops abroad.
In her studio, in addition to her tezhip works, she engages in restoration and bookbinding applications in various fields. At the same time, she shares her knowledge and experience with her students.
