Hatice Aksu

Born in Istanbul in 1965, Aksu graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts. In 1980, she started illumination studies at Kubbealtı Illumination Course with Prof. Çiçek Derman and Dr. İnci Ayan Birol. She continued to attend illumination classes of Dist. Prof. A. Süheyl Ünver, which she started in 1982 at Cerrahpaşa Medical History Chair, until 1986, when Ünver passed away. She worked with Cahide Keskiner, Melek Antel, Mamure Öz and Semih İrteş at Topkapı Palace Turkish Ornament Courses and graduated in 1984.

In 1985, she enrolled at Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts, where she studied illumination with Dündar Tahsin Aykutalp and bookbinding with İslam Seçen in the auxiliary art branch and graduated in 1989. In the same year, she continued her master's studies and completed her thesis on the Comparison of Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman (Classical Period) Illumination Art in 1992, working with Prof. Kerim Silivrili. In 1993, Aksu started her doctoral studies at Mimar Sinan University, Department of Archaeology and History of Art and conducted research on the origins of the rûmî motif in Central Asia and Asia Minor, and completed her doctoral studies with Prof. Selçuk Mülayim in 1998.

She participated in personal and group art events in Türkiye and abroad. Aksu has works in private collections in Türkiye and abroad.

Aksu, who worked as an instructor in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality İSMEK illumination courses for 24 years, gave private lessons in Küçükayasofya Mosque Madrasa room between 2000-2020, and gave illumination lessons at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Traditional Turkish Arts Department between 2014-2021. Aksu, who worked in the establishment of Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, is currently working as a doctor lecturer in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, Illumination-Miniature Paper Marbling Art Major. Aksu continues her studies at Nakkaş Rumi Traditional Handicrafts workshop.
