Iyang Nurdamıa Bıntı Abdul Rahman

As a painter working with gouache, watercolour and acrylic, I am currently focusing on exploring the expressive power of gouache paint. My artistic journey has been deeply shaped by Traditional Turkish Arts, especially the art of Illumination, which I met during an exchange programme in Türkiye in 2018. I was mesmerised by the detailed beauty of Turkish illumination art and it has since formed a lasting bond that has guided my interest in this field to further studies. This passion has evolved into my goal of combining both artistic traditions to create a unique, cross-cultural work, including my work on Malaysian-Classical Illumination art. My work combines cultural history and contemporary artistic practice, adapting my background in Turkish arts with a modern approach to Malaysian-Classical Illumination. My aim is to generate new works by combining the decorative elegance of Turkish illumination with the rich visual language of Malaysian art. I believe that this cross-cultural dialogue will not only enhance my own artistic practice, but also contribute to a wider discussion on the combination of traditional and contemporary art forms.
