Born in 1969 in Zara district of Sivas, Mehmet Arif Vural completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Sivas and graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Theology in 1993. After working as a Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge teacher in Diyarbakır for a while, he settled in Istanbul in 1999. After arriving at Istanbul, he was also interested in the art of calligraphy and learnt the thuluth, naskh and ruqah scripts while continuing to work in private educational institutions.
Mehmet Arif Vural, who also plays the ney (end-blown flute) and tanbur, is interested in Sufi music and is known for his interest in taking photographs, worked for many years in the Ministry of National Education and then worked as the director of the Beyazıt Manuscript Library under the Turkish Manuscript Institution for two years.
