Muhammad Ashraf Heera

The artist is a calligrapher, artist and educator born in Hafizabad, Pakistan. In 2013, he completed his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the National College of Art (NCA) in Lahore, and in 2015 he completed his master's degree in Islamic Arts at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. He started his calligraphy education at an early age, and between 2000 and 2008, he received ijazah (authorisation) from Ghulam Rasool, one of the famous calligraphers of Pakistan, and Tunisian master Al-Mounji Ammar. He also improved his knowledge in the art of calligraphy with summer school courses in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran and Türkiye.

Heera is an artist who has won awards at both national and international level. In 2004, he won an international calligraphy competition in Türkiye and became the first calligrapher of Pakistan to win an award in this field. In 2017, he was honoured with the Walqalam Award by the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and was named "Star of Pakistan". In addition, he won first prizes in calligraphy competitions held in different parts of the world and exhibited his works in more than 250 exhibitions in total.

The artist has organised many calligraphy competitions and exhibitions in Pakistan and abroad, and has been organising national calligraphy competitions called Ashraf-ul-Qalam since 2015. He continues to teach calligraphy in his weekly classes at institutions such as the Shakir Ali Museum and the Cultural Centre of the Iranian Consulate in Lahore. Heera, who represents Pakistan at the international level with his art, also contributes greatly to the training of young calligraphers
