Uğur Taşatan

He was born in Istanbul in 1982. After completing his primary and secondary education, he graduated from Çapa Anatolian Teachers' High School and graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 2006. He completed his master's degree in Marmara University Institute of Turkish Studies, Department of Turkish Art with his thesis on "Paper Marbling by Mustafa Düzgünman in Paper Marbling Collection of Süleymaniye Library" ("Süleymaniye Kütüphanesi Ebru Koleksiyonu'ndaki Mustafa Düzgünman Ebruları") in 2019. In 2021, he continues his doctorate in the same department. 

In 2001, when he was a university student, he learnt the art of paper marbling. On 18 November 2012, he was granted "ijazah" (authorisation) from his teacher Alparslan Babaoğlu for teaching and performing the art of paper marbling. He is still in contact with his teacher and goes on with his studies on Turkish Paper Marbling. 

He won awards in various competitions. In 2016 and 2017, he served as a member of the Selection Committee for Bearers of Intangible Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture. He introduced Turkish Paper Marbling abroad. In 2018 and 2019, he took part in the curriculum preparation commission of Traditional Turkish Arts High Schools. In 2023, he was assigned to the commission that prepared the paper marbling course programme and paper marbling book for the General Directorate of Religious Education under the Ministry of National Education. In 2023 and 2024, he served as a Jury Member at the International Student Awards of Türkiye Scholarship. He has opened 6 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions. He presented papers and wrote articles on paper marbling. 

He works as a lecturer at Kastamonu University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Painting and gives paper marbling lessons at Biksad-Applied Turkish Islamic Arts Library.
