The artist was born in 1977 in Xoy, Iran. He completed his secondary and university education in Xoy. In 1991, under the guidance of his father, he began practicing Nasta'liq script. By studying Safavid-era and Imad-style writings, he developed his unique calligraphy style. Despite not receiving formal training from a teacher, he mastered the intricacies of the Imad style and established his own artistic approach.
For 30 years, he taught Islamic Calligraphy (Hüsn-i Hat) and religious studies. Since 2004, he has trained numerous students in his atelier in Iran. He completed his PhD in Turkish Islamic Arts at Atatürk University in Turkey. During his doctoral studies, he met the renowned master of calligraphy, Reisü'l-Hattatin Hasan Çelebi, from whom he learned the subtleties of Ottoman artistic heritage. In 2016, he received an ijazah (certification) at Marmara University's Faculty of Theology Mosque and Cultural Center, as well as a letter of commendation and recommendation from Fuat Başar.
Dr. Mahboubi has created approximately 100 Hilye-i Sherifs and countless other works and pieces. In 2019, he won second place in the Talik category at a competition organized by IRCICA. In 2022, he received the IRCICA Encouragement Award and placed fourth in the Talik category at the Iraq International Calligraphy Competition.
